Photofacial with Lumecca IPL is a powerful intense pulsed light flash lamp treatment targeting both brown and red pigment in the skin; multiple pulses of light are applied to the skin, dispersing the excess brown pigment and coagulating the blood within the small facial veins. The brown pigmented lesions temporarily darken and then flake off within a few days, while the tiny blood vessels partly or completely close up. Lumecca is non-invasive with minimum to no downtime. Lumecca can be used on any body parts and effectively treats brown hyperpigmentation, small spider veins, sun damage, and rosacea.

Procedure time
Lumecca IPL is a non-invasive and quick procedure. Since there is no need for topical anesthetic or any additional prior prep, the treatment itself lasts about , an average, about 10-15 minutes. However, we do schedule patients for a 45 minutes appointments to assure sufficient time for review of any changes in medical history, medications, as well as post-treatment care recommendations.
Recovery time & side effects
Since Lumecca IPL is a non-invasive treatment, downtime is none to minimal. Immediately following a treatment, the skin feels warm and turns red like a mild sunburn. The warm /tingling sensation wears off within a few hours, while the redness usually within 24-48 hours. At the same time, any brown lesions will dry up/crust up and gradually start to fall off over the next week. Tiny red veins (telangiectasia) will blanch and disappear over the next few days. We strongly recommend avoiding direct sun exposure during the recovery time and, if outdoors, applying SPF minimum 30Â prior to leaving the house.

Consultation

Treatment
Immediately prior to the treatment the skin is cleansed and any leftover makeup removed. Patient is given protective eye goggles. A layer of cool ultrasound gel is applied to the skin. The IPL handpiece is then applied to the skin and multiple pulses of light are released; the pulses are comparable to a snap of a rubber sensation with some mild stinging/tingling.
