The types of chemical peels offered at Troy Laser Center include the following:
Vitalize peel is a medium superficial chemical peel by SkinMedica with a unique blend of alpha and beta hydroxy medical grade acids. This peel will cause mild to moderate peeling of the top layer of your skin, lasting about 3-4 days. By removing layers of damaged skin, this peel can improve mild to moderate acne, superficial acne scars, moderate pigmentation/sun damage, and melasma. It is safe for darker skin tones. Best results are seen with a series of 6 peels.
Rejuvenize peel is a deep superficial chemical peel by SkinMedica that penetrates deep layers of the epidermis and the top of the dermis, the inner layer of your skin. This peel is clinically proven to stimulate and build new collagen and produces significant results with minimal downtime. It is indicated for moderate to severe sun damage, wrinkles, acne, acne scarring and melasma. Significant improvement and best results are seen with a series of 6 peels.
Jessner’s 14% Peel
Jessner’s peel is a deeper chemical peel that penetrates through the entire epidermis, stimulating collagen production, destroying acne bacteria, unplugging pores and lesions, and drying out the excess oil. This peel will create about 2 days of moderate redness and up to 5 days of moderate peeling. It is effective for medium to deep wrinkles, inflammatory acne, moderate acne scars, and moderate sun damage. A series of multiple peels is recommended for best results.
TCA 25% Peel
TCA 25% peel is our strongest chemical peel that causes removal/shedding of the whole epidermis. We recommend this peel for patients with severe skin damage such as deep wrinkling, heavily mottled complexion, skin abused from years of tanning, and deep acne scarring. This peel involves longer downtime, anywhere from a week to 2 weeks. It is performed exclusively by a physician.
What does a chemical peel involve?
Before undergoing a chemical peel, it is important to inform your aesthetician at Troy Laser Center of any pertinent medical history involving the face, including all medications you are taking. You may be asked to stop taking certain medications before the procedure.
Each chemical peel treatment can be done in one office visit at Troy Laser Center. First, one of our experienced aestheticians will thoroughly cleanse your skin. Then, the chemical peel is applied to the skin, which may cause minimal burning or stinging sensations. A cold air blowing device will be used to minimize the stinging sensation and keep patients comfortable.
After the procedure, patients can expect facial redness and peeling similar to a mild sunburn. Depending on the type of facial peel you undergo, the length of the peeling process will vary and can range anywhere from 3 to 7 days. Once the peeling process is over, patients are left with cleaner, smoother, more even-toned and younger looking skin. Your aesthetician may recommend a series of peels in order to achieve optimal results.
