Microneedling / PRP Treatment for Face in Sterling Heights, MI
What is microneedling / PRP facial rejuvenation?
Microneedling and PRP facial rejuvenation are non-surgical techniques offered by our Sterling Heights cosmetic dermatology center, used to rejuvenate the skin and restore youthful contours of the face. Through applications of these techniques, patients experience enhanced facial volume, minimized wrinkles, texture improvement, and skin tightening. Both treatments stimulate the body’s ability to create its own collagen and naturally rejuvenate itself.
Microneedling and PRP facial rejuvenation are often performed together in order to achieve optimal rejuvenation results. Microneedling, performed at Troy Laser Center using Rejuvapen technology, uses an automated microneedling device incorporating tiny surgical grade needles to create thousands of micro-perforations in the epidermis and the top layer of the dermis. The process of needle “piercing” the skin causes a release of cytokines and growth factors, ultimately leading to the formation of new collagen and elastin. The temporary micro-perforations allow for superior penetration and diffusion of topicals during and post-procedure. Rejuvapen microneedling is the treatment of choice for acne scarring, enlarged pores, stretch marks, mild to moderate wrinkles, and pigmentation. Unlike with fractional ablative lasers, the downtime is minimal. Multiple sessions are typically recommended for optimal results.
PRP Facial Rejuvenation (Vampire Facelift)
PRP facial rejuvenation, also referred to as the Vampire Facelift, is a non-surgical injectable treatment enhancing facial shape and volume. It involves drawing a small amount of blood from the patient and creating a concentration of beneficial platelets via centrifugation. The platelet-rich plasma (aka “liquid gold”) is then injected into the skin or applied topically when performed in conjunction with the Rejuvapen microneedling. PRP enhances facial volume, minimizes wrinkles, and aids in skin tightening.
Why are microneedling and PRP treatment performed?
Both microneedling and PRP treatment are performed to stimulate the skin’s natural production of collagen, which can effectively deliver plumper, smoother, and younger looking skin. Using these two cosmetic treatments together is often recommended, as PRP is more easily absorbed into the skin (when applied topically) with the use of microneedling therapy.
Microneedling and PRP therapy may be used to address concerns such as:
- Fine to moderate wrinkles in the face
- Mild to moderate acne scarring
- Photo-damaged skin
- Stretch marks
- Volume loss in face
What do microneedling and PRP therapy involve?
Microneedling is performed using a device called the Rejuvapen, which makes tiny needle punctures in the outermost layers of the skin. This device is able to precisely control the depth, spacing, frequency and pattern of these needle pricks, which stimulates your skin to make more collagen and elastin. Topical numbing cream is applied to the area 30-45 minutes prior to the procedure to minimize any discomfort. When performed in conjunction with PRP therapy, microneedling will be completed prior to the PRP application in order to allow for better absorption of the platelet rich plasma into the facial tissue.
PRP facial rejuvenation therapy begins by taking a small sample of blood from the patient which is then spun in a centrifuge to separate the actual plasma from the red blood cells. Once prepared, the platelet concentration is then applied topically or injected into specific areas of the face to prompt collagen growth and tissue regeneration.
