Dr. Steven N. Rives - Internal Medicine Physician in Sterling Heights, MI
Dr. Steven N. Rives, a Board Certified Internal Medicine Physician at Tri-County Medical Clinic
earned his Bachelor of Science with Honors degree in Physiology from Michigan State
University in East Lansing, Michigan. While at Michigan State University, he studied abroad one
semester in London, England at The University College of London and King’s College London-
School of Medical Education studying Medical Ethics and the History of Health Care. Dr. Rives
earned his Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine degree from Lincoln Memorial University-DeBusk
College of Osteopathic Medicine in Harrogate, Tennessee where he graduated at the top of his
class. Following graduation, Dr. Rives participated in a Medical Outreach Mission in Guatemala.
Dr. Rives completed his Internship at St. Mary Mercy Hospital in Livonia, Michigan. He
completed his first year of his Internal Medicine Residency Training at West Palm Hospital in
West Palm Beach, Florida before completing his Internal Medicine Residency Training at Unity
Health-WCMC-Mayo Clinic Care Network Hospital in Searcy, Arkansas where he served as Co-
Chief Resident and received numerous awards for his academic excellence. Dr. Rives awards
include; achieving the highest score on the in-service exam and scoring above the 90 th percentile
in the entire country on the in-service exam for two consecutive years. Dr. Rives has also
presented multiple case report poster presentations at medical conferences.
Dr. Rives is Board Certified in Internal Medicine from the American Osteopathic Board of
Internal Medicine. Dr. Rives is a member of the American Osteopathic Association, American
College of Physicians, American College of Osteopathic Internists, Michigan Osteopathic
Association and the Northern Michigan Osteopathic Association. Dr. Rives is also a Beaumont
Hospital Physician on staff at multiple facilities.
In addition to Medicine, Dr. Rives other passions are teaching and research. Dr. Rives has taught
medical students, nursing students, pharmacy students, medical assistant students, physician
assistant students and resident physicians during his training. Dr. Rives has a special interest in
treating patients with Diabetes as he conducted research in this field during his residency
training. He created diabetic protocols and protocols for treating Diabetic Ketoacidosis patients
for the hospital. Dr. Rives enjoys the complexity and diversity of Internal Medicine and also
treating patients with COPD, Asthma, Rheumatologic diseases, and Migraines. Dr. Rives
believes in the importance of the doctor-patient relationship, listening to his patients, showing
compassion, and ultimately empowering the patient in their own medical care.
