Dermal Fillers & Lip Injections in Sterling Heights, Michigan
What are dermal fillers?
Dermal fillers are yet another type of non-surgical cosmetic procedure with a minimum downtime, addressing facial conditions due to natural aging process. As we age, our faces naturally lose the underlying fat and the skin starts to stretch out, resulting in not just deeper wrinkles and folds, but sunken and hollow appearance. FDA-approved dermal fillers injected into the cheeks and other areas aid in diminishing facial lines and folds and restoring volume and fullness to the face. Dermal fillers can also be used as lip injections to plump thin lips. Results from facial fillers vary, depending on the type of filler used, the facial area to be treated, and, of course, the skill of the injecting physician. Dermal fillers at Troy Laser Center are administered exclusively by board-certified physician Dr. Kenneth Wolok, who comes with 15 years of hands-on experience in injecting a wide-range of facial fillers, including Juvederm and Radiesse.
What can dermal fillers treat?
Facial fillers may be used to treat:
- Nasolabial folds (deep wrinkles from the corners of the nose to the mouth) / parentheses / smile lines
- Under-eye circles
- Hollowed areas of the face, such as sunken cheeks
- Marionette lines
- Volume loss in the chin and jaw area
- Thin lips and Vertical Lip Lines (aka smoker’s lines or pucker lines)
What types of dermal fillers are available?
There are a variety of brands and different formulations of dermal fillers and lip injections on the market. At Troy Laser Center, we offer the following types of facial fillers:
Often called the “natural filler” since it is made up of hyaluronic acid, a natural component of human skin, Juvederm Ultra Plus replaces volume, fills in, and smooths facial wrinkles and folds. It can effectively correct smile lines, marionette lines, chin wrinkles, and is also used as a lip injection for thin lips. Approved by FDA to last up to 1 year.
The first FDA-approved dermal filler to treat volume loss in the cheek area and the only filler proven to last up to 2 years, Juvederm Voluma XC is a non-surgical and long-lasting cheek lift, resulting in enhanced contour and a fuller, youthful face with minimal downtime.
The first and only hyaluronic acid dermal filler for the treatment of moderate to severe wrinkles and folds that is proven to last up to 18 months. Essentially, Juvederm Ultra Plus XC, but with long-lasting results.
Exclusively designed for the treatment of thin lips and vertical lip lines; the first and only dermal filler proven to increase lip fullness and soften the appearance of vertical lip lines for up to 1 year. The Juvederm lip injection produces instant and natural looking results.
Radiesse is a calcium-based long-term dermal filler that can last up to a year. Calcium-based microspheres suspended in a water-based gel are injected into the skin. Once injected, Radiesse works below the skin’s surface to stimulate the production of your own collagen, which not only fills in wrinkles and folds but replenishes lost volume due to aging. It is recommended for moderate to severe facial folds and wrinkles such as smile lines, marionette lines, and sunken cheeks.
These dermal fillers are sometimes used in conjunction with Botox to achieve optimal rejuvenation results. See below for more information on this technique, which is known as the “liquid facelift” procedure.
What is a liquid facelift?
A liquid facelift is a combination of Botox and facial fillers, used to create a rejuvenated facial appearance. This technique allows patients to achieve a more youthful, well-rested look without undergoing a traditional facelift that necessitates a significant recovery period. Botox is used for the expression lines caused by excessive muscle contraction, while fillers can be used to correct deep wrinkles and folds as well as areas with loss of volume.
What does a liquid facelift involve?
During your complimentary consultation, our physician will perform an aesthetic facial analysis and make recommendations as to which combination of dermal fillers and Botox will produce the best results. In some cases, Botox or facial fillers alone may be recommended, depending on a patient’s concerns and desired results.
During a liquid facelift, tiny needles will be used to inject the FDA-approved solutions into various areas of the face. Botox is injected into specific facial muscles, while facial fillers are injected directly under the skin. Lip injections can be performed, for patients opting to enhance thin lips. Since most of the fillers come already premixed with a numbing solution, discomfort is extremely minimal for both dermal fillers and Botox injections. The procedure will take around 20 minutes to complete, depending on how many injections are needed.
Results will vary slightly depending on the type of fillers used and areas treated. The effects can last anywhere from a year to 2 years.
