What are dermal fillers?
Dermal fillers, also known as facial fillers, are another type of non-surgical cosmetic procedure. They involve injecting FDA-approved solutions directly into areas of the face where there are deep-set wrinkles or significant volume loss due to normal aging. Results from dermal fillers vary depending on the type of filler used. Dermal fillers are performed at Troy Laser Center by board-certified physician Dr. Kenneth Wolok.
Dermal fillers are sometimes used in conjunction with Botox to achieve optimal rejuvenation results. See below for more information on this technique, which is known as the “liquid facelift” procedure.
Dermal fillers may be used to treat:
- Nasolabial folds (deep wrinkles from the corners of the nose to the mouth) / parentheses / smile lines
- Under-eye circles
- Hollowed areas of the face, such as sunken cheeks
- Marionette lines / chin wrinkles
- Thin lips
What types of dermal fillers do you offer?
There are a variety of brands and different formulations for dermal fillers. At Troy Laser Center, we offer the following types of face fillers and lip fillers.
Often called the “natural filler” since it is made up of hyaluronic acid, a natural component of human skin, Juvederm Ultra Plus replaces volume, fills in, and smooths facial wrinkles and folds. It can effectively correct smile lines, marionette lines, chin wrinkles, and thin lips. This wrinkle filler lasts, on average, about 9 months.
The first FDA-approved filler to treat volume loss in the cheek area and the only filler proven to last up to 2 years, Juvederm Voluma XC is a non-surgical and long-lasting cheek lift, resulting in enhanced contour and a fuller, youthful face with minimal downtime.
Radiesse is a calcium-based long-term filler that can last up to a year. Calcium-based microspheres suspended in a water-based gel are injected into the skin. Once injected, Radiesse works below the skin’s surface to stimulate the production of your own collagen, which not only fills in wrinkles and folds but replenishes lost volume due to aging. It is recommended for moderate to severe facial folds and wrinkles such as smile lines, marionette lines, and sunken cheeks.
What is Kybella?
Kybella is the first and only FDA-approved injectable treatment to improve the appearance of moderate to severe fat beneath the chin by physically destroying fat cells. Kybella is a non-surgical way of correcting double chin with minimal downtime.
While Kybella is not a dermal filler, it is a non-invasive injectable treatment that helps improve the profile and contours of the face.
What is a liquid facelift?
A liquid facelift is a combination of Botox and dermal fillers, used to create a rejuvenated facial appearance. This technique allows patients to achieve a more youthful, well-rested look without undergoing a traditional facelift that necessitates a significant recovery period. Botox and fillers can be used in various places on the face, including the lips.
What does a liquid facelift involve?
During your complimentary consultation, our physician will perform an aesthetic facial analysis and make recommendations as to which combination of fillers and Botox will produce the best results. In some cases, Botox or fillers alone may be recommended, depending on a patient’s concerns and desired results.
During a liquid facelift, small needles will be used to inject the FDA-approved solutions into various areas of the face. Botox is injected into specific facial muscles, while dermal fillers are injected directly under the skin. Lip injections can also be made, for patients opting to enhance thin lips. Discomfort is extremely minimal for both dermal fillers and Botox injections. The procedure will take around 20 minutes to complete, depending on how many injections are needed.
Results will vary slightly depending on the type of dermal fillers used. The effects of a liquid facelift typically last for 9 months to a year.
