Exfoliation is kind of the holy grail of skin care. What exfoliates you will save you. OK, that’s getting a little carried away, but exfoliation is good because it removes the layer of dead, tired skin cells on the surface of your face and reveals the younger skin beneath. Men exfoliate their skin every day when they shave, and women are jealous because they do!
At Troy Laser Center we offer different chemical peels to those who seek to exfoliate their skin. Chemical peels vary in the degree of aggressiveness, which is dictated by the active chemical used.
DIFFERENT PEELS, DIFFERENT DEGREES
The depth and aggressiveness of the peel is dictated by the main chemical, but peels are usually broken into three categories: light, medium, and deep. Within the categories, there is variability that is controlled by the time the peeling agent is left on the face.
- Light chemical peels remove the outmost layer of skin to effectively treat acne, wrinkles, dryness, and uneven skin tone.
- Medium peels remove cells from the deeper portions of the epidermis (the outer layer of the skin) to treat deeper wrinkles, acne scars, and uneven skin tone.
- Deep peels penetrate down into the dermis layer and are much more aggressive. They are recommended for removing scars, addressing deep wrinkles, and peeling precancerous growths.
OUR TROY LASER CENTER PEELS
Here are the peels that we offer at Troy Laser Center.
- Vitalize Peel
This is a medium superficial peel from SkinMedica with a unique blend of alpha and beta hydroxy medical-grade acids. It is meant to improve mild to moderate acne, superficial acne scars, moderate pigmentation/sun damage, and melasma. It will cause some mild to moderate peeling for 3-4 days.
- Rejuvenize Peel
This is SkinMedica’s deepest peel. Meant to address more severe skin issues such as acne scarring, deep lines, uneven skin tone and texture, and extensive sun damage, this peel will have a little more peeling, but it delivers significant results with minimum downtime.
- Jessner’s 14% Peel
This is a deeper peel that penetrates the epidermis to stimulate collagen production, destroy P.Acnes bacteria, unplug pores, peel away lesions, and remove excess oil. This will create 2 days of moderate redness and up to 5 days of moderate peeling. The Jessner Peel is effective for treating medium to deep wrinkles, inflammatory acne, moderate acne scarring, and moderate sun damage.
- TCA 25% Peel
Our strongest peel, the TCA removes the entire epidermis layer of the skin. This is a serious peel meant for patients with severe skin damage from deep acne scarring, deep wrinkling, extensive areas of hyperpigmentation, and lots and lots of sun damage. This peel will require longer downtime, and there will be crusting on the skin. Plan on 2 weeks of recovery time.
